At a moment when new farmers face unprecedented barriers, from rising land costs to shrinking support systems, the New Entry Sustainable Farming Project, a longstanding program of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, is stepping forward to keep pathways open. In 2025 alone, New Entry trained 700+ aspiring, new and small-scale farmers and led a nationwide network of 170+ farmer training programs, incubators, and apprenticeship programs—helping emerging growers build the skills, confidence, and readiness to succeed.

This work is transformational. Farmers launch businesses, supply local markets, preserve farmland, and build economic stability for their families and communities.
