About

Nurture Kits: A MOTHER Lab Initiative is a project led by the Community Engagement, Advocacy and Policy committee of the MOTHER Lab and Center for Black Maternal Health and Reproductive Justice, Department of Public Health and Community Medicine.

The goal of this initiative is to raise at least $20,000 to fund at least 50 "Nurture Kits" for low-income expectant birthers and families. In short, the Nurture Kits would be a package of items for new parents including items like breast pumps, nipple cream, portable changing pad, etc.

This initiative also aims to raise awareness about access to essential baby products and how important supporting expectant and new parents is. In addition to the cost of childcare, the costs of items such as diapers can be staggering for low income families. The average price of diapers has increased 14% in a year on top of diaper taxing. The pandemic has only exacerbated the need for diapers and diaper banks have had to increase distribution to keep up with the need. One in three US families cannot afford diapers and the price of baby formula and other items continue to increase.

Thus, our Nurture Kits will serve as a resource for parents and guardians, assisting in curbing some of the financial costs/burdens providing essential childcare products/items to all families.
