"The hydroponic farms at Tufts began with a central question: what does it look like to empower art and nutrition students to grow our own food hydroponically? Farmie has been a successful experiment and learning opportunity for the entire Friedman community. Discovering the joy of hydroponics starts with support from donors to maintain Farmie operations. The Food and Nutrition Innovation Institute (FNII) provided seed funding for Farmie’s management with support from the Green Fund, but Farmie is growing and needs your support!
This July, in addition to piloting the first-ever Farmie CSA program, we are beginning a fundraising effort ahead of the semester to support Farmie operations during the school year. With your generous support, we will be able to grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers like bok choy, basil, and borage, and host educational events teaching our peers and community about hydroponic operations, nutrition, and agriculture as an art form.
While Farmie is up and running, students, faculty, and staff from around Tufts and Boston can experience the joy of fresh produce at all times of the year. The sounds of water flowing, the fragrance of fresh flowers, and the bright lights offer a serotonin boost to all who come by.
Your support will help ensure that Farmie can continue to operate at its full capacity and grow to support students’ learning and nutritional needs for many years to come. For $20, you can “adopt a growing pod”, sponsoring the growth of one plant in the hydroponic tower.
Please consider donating to the Farmie Fund! Your donation is the seed we need to make our hydroponic project grow!
